The Prairie
April 6th to 9th: Minnesota, South Dakota and Wyoming

We got our rental car at Minneapolis Airport in the evening April 6th. After overnight rest close to Minneapolis we came to Minneota at the 7th. In the night before there had been a little snow so it was white over all. We got room in a Motel in Marshall and there we were resting until next morning. Then we made visit to friends in Minneota and at noon we drove into South Dakota. Before it got dark we had room in a Motel at Wall, a small village at the freeway very close to the Badlands. Next morning, April 9th, we drove through the National Park Badlands. At noon we were in Rapid City and then we to the Mountain Rushmore. From Rushmore we drove to west into Wyoming and then to the south in an endless prairie until we got to Cheyenne where we stayed overnight.

St. Gilbertson's Home. It is next to the house we thought was his when we were visiting in January 1999. So now we have picture of the right house. Before we drove into Minneota Ingrún took a nice picture in the village Granite Falls.

Visiting Bill Holm and his wife next morning. They are showing us on a map interesting places worth to see on the way to California.

Bill told us about the courses he is going to give in Hofsós Emigrant Museum in Iceland next summer and about his house he bought there and plans to stay there and do his writings.

Badlands. Ingrún looking towards the area where Wounded Knee somewhere is. At Wounded Knee we have one of the most
sorrowful days in The History of USA,
that day was in the end of year 1890.

Ingrún.

Ingrún in "the wild nature" near Badlands. The only trees in the prairie of South Dakota and Wyoming we saw on our way are of this kind.

At a farm or small village near Badlands. Is this a scene  from real life or something from movie making?

In Rapid City we meet these real cowboys. A market day in the City Hall.

Ingrun is not buying guns, but she bought two Indian arrows, we were sure that it would be easy to bring that kind of weapons
with us back to Iceland.

After driving nearly endless prairie south the east side of Wyoming we suddenly got for a while into a landscape of some kind of mountains.

Days Inn are nice Motels, that in Cheyenne in Wyoming
was in no way an exception from that.
